The role of design today is multifaceted and increasingly vital in addressing complex challenges, enhancing user experiences, and shaping a more sustainable and inclusive world. Designers have the responsibility to consider the ethical, environmental, and societal implications of their work while striving to create innovative and user-friendly solutions.

Mapping out and quantifying a design ecosystem is a strategic and foundational step in the design process. It provides designers with insights, informs decision-making, and ensures that design solutions are not only aesthetically pleasing but also aligned with the broader context and objectives of the ecosystem in which they operate.

The Design Center of the Philippines recently released such a document that spanned multiple years and involved many consultations and countless conversations with a broad swathe of stakeholders – both national and international.   The recommendations from this gargantuan effort are being used to form policy and launch real-world interventions under the banner of the larger Philippine Creative Industries Development Act which was passed into law at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
