The Design Center of the Philippines (DCP) along with various partners such as the Department of Trade – Region 7,  Cebu UNESCO City of Design and the City of Cebu are co-mounting the 13th Asia Design Sharing Meeting in Cebu City to coincide with this year’s Cebu Design Week.

Composed of 7 countries and 9 organizations – mostly from Southeast Asia but originated by South Korea – this organization meets yearly to exchange knowledge, benchmark practices, policies and programs and identify opportunities for collaboration.

This year’s edition will consist of meetings, seminars and field visits and will also be complemented with networking opportunities and experiential learning opportunities.  It is also meant to showcase Cebu as a UNESCO City of Design to the Asian delegates. Secondly, it is meant to facilitate relationships and discussions between Cebu and the Asian delegates towards future collaborations. Lastly, ADS 2023 is designed to provide avenues for knowledge exchange between Asian countries and the Cebu design community.

On a more macro scale, this conference has the goal of institutionalizing an Asian Design Agenda that goes beyond benchmarking and sharing best practices.  The DCP will be proposing the theme of “Emerging Design for Emergencies”  which will highlight the often taken for granted power of creativity, the digital economy, technology, and design overall in urgently addressing climate change in some of the most vulnerable countries in the world.
